Project Overview

Background

Bukit Golf Mediterania (BGM) is a housing complex located in the Pantai Indah Kapuk area, Jakarta. This residential area has 4 housing clusters consisting of Akasia Golf Cluster, Cendana Golf Cluster, Ebony Golf Cluster, and Damar Golf Cluster, which are located in residential area RW 05 BGM PIK.

In the housing complex environment, it is sometimes difficult to obtain up-to-date information on security, news, and social activities in the surrounding area. In addition, complaints related to housing environment such as cleanliness and security are also often overlooked or difficult to report. This can make residents feel uncomfortable and disengaged in improving their living environment.

Objective

Facilitating housing residents in reporting complaints related to their living environment easily and quickly.
Providing up-to-date information on security, news, and social activities in the surrounding area of the housing.
Increasing participation and engagement of residents in improving their living environment and strengthening a sense of community within it.
Improving transparency in resolving housing environment-related issues and expediting responses from housing management.
Facilitating housing residents to socialize with their neighbors and find suitable social activities for them and their families.
Increasing a sense of security and comfort for housing residents by regularly monitoring the security of their living environment.
Strengthening the connection between housing residents and housing management by providing announcement features and population information services.

User Interview

Gathering information from potential users by asking structured or unstructured questions about their user experience, needs, and preferences.

I use the In-depth interview method and invite target users based on predetermined potential personas to find out and validate user behavior and understand the actual problems faced by users.
In this stage, I seek to understand, validate Mental Models, Personas, and map them into the Hook Model.

Potential Persona

Persona

Employee, Entrepreneur, Retiree, Homemaker

Demographic

Main Goal

Easy and fast access to obtain up-to-date information related to security, news, social activities, as well as facilitate residents to report complaints related to the housing environment. Also strengthen the solidarity and brotherhood of the residents of BGM PIK area.

Hook Model Canvas

After obtaining and exploring the mental models of each user and the problems they face, I merged similar mental models from each user into one and then mapped it into the Hook Model Canvas.

Validated User Problem

Combining similar problems found among users into a validated problem statement.

Defining challenges using HMW (How Might We) approach.

Translating all validated user problems into challenges, then prioritizing the challenges using Challenge Matrix based on their impact (how much they influence the user to achieve their goals) and reach (how many users are affected by the problem).

PRODUCT

Value Proposition, UX Attribute, Signal & Metrics

At this stage, I determine the value proposition, which is the benefit that our product offers to solve problems and meet the needs of users. Next, together with the team, we discuss UX attributes, signals, and metrics as key indicators of the success of the design that can be measured and targeted.

Generative Design

Brainstorming and generating as many ideas as possible using Pirate Funnel & Scenario Mapping. These ideas will later help the Product Manager (PM) to determine and create the product vision.

Ideas without a clear strategy will be futile. The product will not grow and develop well and sustainably.

To get strategic results, my team and I use the Pirate Funnel, also known as Dave McClure's AARRR Framework (Acquisition, Activation, Retention, Referral, Revenue).

After getting all the ideas, we map them into a User Journey Map based on HMW and related funnel.

Solution Matrix

Prioritizing ideas and determining which ones will be focused on and important using the Solution Matrix.

UX Sitemap

A sitemap or a planning diagram is a hierarchy structure of web/app pages that are interlinked and can be accessed by users to perform a series of tasks.

USER FLOW

Main Task: Join and report environmental issues.

WIREFLOW

Main Task: Join and report environmental issues.

Final Design

Starting with my application logo, I created a design that represents the Bukit Golf Mediterania housing complex, which is an elite residence with super luxurious facilities that covers an area of 800 hectares and has the main facility of a golf course.

After discussing with stakeholders, they advised me not to use the original Bukit Golf Mediterania logo in order to optimize the display on a mobile application screen. Redesigning the logo for a mobile application can help ensure that the logo is clearly visible and attractive on mobile devices

On Boarding

This is the Onboarding Screen of BGM PIK. This screen is crucial for users to understand our application. We showcase key features that can be utilized, such as providing residents with easy and quick access to important information regarding social, security, and population matters, maintaining the neighborhood's environment, and creating reports efficiently.

Log in & Registration

Registration on BGM PIK is easy and secure. To protect user accounts, registration and login require the use of the Maintenance of Environment Fee (IPL) number owned by residents based on their house unit number, along with an active email and phone number. After that, an OTP confirmation will be sent for verification. Then, users can create a password. For login, simply use the IPL number and password, followed by OTP confirmation for verification.

Navbar Page

BGM PIK has 3 navbar menus consisting of Home, Profile, and Settings. Home contains notifications, resident and general information cards, an environmental care feature for creating reports or complaints to the management, environmental care status, IPL status, resident and general information, and social media features for residents. Profile contains resident information, environmental care statistics, and profile settings. Settings include security, notifications, about the application, terms and conditions, and privacy policy.

Creating a report to the management

We will start by selecting the environmental care feature and choosing the general environmental care option. Then the user selects the division of the management where the report will be made. The user uploads a photo of the location area to be reported. After that, the user adds additional notes for the management, report date, and reported location. Before sending the report to the management, the user double-checks and reviews the report on the review report page, then presses the send report button and voila!

Usability Testing (UT)

Usability Testing (UT) is useful to test whether our application in prototype form is understandable by users. It helps validate our ideation results, whether they are good or not.
I conducted Direct UT at the Bukit Golf Mediterania management office, inviting potential users to directly try the prototype from the design that has been created. The advantage of Direct UT is that we can see their facial expressions and movements when using the application in this prototype directly.
So far, according to users, the application is quite good, but there is one pain point in the homepage and complaint page for the "Peduli Lingkungan" feature, which has been iterated and improved.

Closing

So, that's the whole process from the beginning to the end of a product designer. This project was completed in 6 months, from March to September 2022. I gained a lot of new knowledge and learning. I would like to express my gratitude to the team involved in this project, including BGM PIK housing management, Project Manager, Front End Developer, Back End Developer, and stakeholders.

Collaboration is the key to making it happen,
Let's be part of the solution.
